I spend here almost two month and i meet a lot of great people, all my friend they ask me to suggest a place to stay in Melbourne i always send them in this place! Is not a quite and relaxing place if you are working for the all day isn't the place you are looking for.
I stayed at this place for over 4 months, and it became my 2nd home. The people I met and the great times we had here I will remember forever. There's seems to be a tradition that whoever moves into the hostel is welcomed by everyone else with open arms. Whether you're there for a week or for 4 months, you'll fit straight into the group. It's more like a big shared house than a hostel. There's quite a few chill out areas where you hang with your friends or get some down time to yourself when it's quiet. The full foxtel TV package is handy during the occasional Melbourne rain and the free breakfast is a great bonus. The 6 bed dorms can sometimes be a bit of a squeeze if people have a lot of luggage, but it's no major problem. There's enough showers and toilets available for use at any time of day and the washing facilities are pretty good value. Once a week Kelly the cleaner (what a character) will come into your room and tell you to get out of bed in her friendly Australian tone so she can clean the room. The owners Aaron and Josh are friendly guys who are always happy to help. The whole hostel is usually quite clean but can get a little messy after a big night! The best thing is that you can choose between drinking and staying up late, or getting some rest if you're working early, as it never gets too rowdy, but it's still great fun if you choose to be one of the drinkers.I almost forgot to mention the location; just off the best street in Melbourne; Chapel Street. This street has more restaurants, bars, clubs and shops than you can shake a boomerang at. It really is unbelievable. The train station is a 5 minute walk away from which you can get to the MCG in 7 minutes and the CBD in 10 minutes. It's only half an hour walk to the beach at St Kilda, but i'd recommend Brighton Beach over that beach. only 15 minutes on the train. On the whole I absolutely love this hostel and would recommend it to anyone staying for any length of time. Don't even bother looking at any other hostel. I wish I was back there now! You will have a fantastic stay and make friends for life.
I arrived in Melbourne, travelling alone and booked myself into a private room in the Back of Chapel for a few days and ended up staying for about 3 weeks. Ideally I would have stayed much longer but work took me into the CBD. This hostel seems to attract friendly, fun people who are up for a party but also respect one an others privacy and work schedules. Its perfectly located just off Chapel Street so the hostel is surrounded by cafe's, bars, shops, clubs and some amazing street art.It truly is a home away from home and Arron and his brother (The owners) do a great job of keeping a relaxed, laid back atmosphere.
My friend and I had a short, week long stay at Back of Chapel, and both loved it! Booking process and communication was all really simple, and the place was super easy to get to (thanks to the directions provided!). The hostel is really well located, with plenty of great restaurants/bars as well as supermarkets/pharmacy/public transport all within short walking distance. The hostel itself is usually always kept clean and tidy (perhaps sometimes a little disheveled after a big night). The rooms are all simple, but plenty adequate - the only problem is that it can sometimes get noisy which makes it difficult to sleep (however this is mostly due to the bars across the street). Plenty of bathrooms are available, but I'd probably suggest using the ones downstairs near the kitchen as they are the warmest/cleanest. We had a room with a balcony (which I suggest requesting), as this was a pretty 'cool' opportunity to let some fresh air in.The best thing is that everyone at the hostel is super friendly and welcoming, while also letting you do your own thing. Most people are staying long term so know each other well, but are still just as inclusive with short stay people. Aaron at reception is also a lovely person, and from my understanding is always willing to help. He was also kind enough to bring his beautiful little dog Frankie to see us off on our last day 🙂 All in all, I’m quite happy to say that our stay was pretty great! Any issues are minor and should never be a deterrence as they are far outweighed by all the positives. My only main regret and sadness is that I didn't get to keep in contact with some of the fantastic people I met during my visit. Hopefully I'll see everyone again in another life 🙂
By far this is the best backpacker hostel in Melbourne! Staff are so good and always help out! Its a small place but this makes it feel like a home and all the friends I met there i will stay in contact with for sure!
See you guys when I come back
Awesome location on chapel walking distance to public transport and heaps of great cafes bars and shops. Also the wasn't enough rooms in the dorm so I got upgraded to a private room free of charge which was nice
All very good, people were friendly, facilities and security were good, and it's the cheapest in the area.
Thanks so much Back of Chapel for such a wonderful stay. Everyone there, especially the staff made our stay so welcoming. If we needed anything they were there to give us advice. Beds/kitchen/bathroom/common area were very clean! They had heaters which was even more of a bonus!! Would definitely come and stay again 🙂
I love this place. The House is clean and tidy, there is free breakfast and a lot of laid back people. But most important : instead of the most crowded CBD Hostels, this is place which you can actually can call home. I'll get there back soon.
Good location. Clean and tidy. Comfortable and clean bed. Good facilities (TV room, Free Unlimited Wifi that works! And free breakfast everyday if your around when it's on!) Friendly staff, and fellow travellers
